Just wanted to say what a Godsend Studio Sound Electronics was to me. My 22 year old Optimus dual cassette has been dead in the water with stretched belts for more than three years. Radio Shack long ago quit offering parts for it. I almost pitched it last year. After I found your website hope was restored. Following your belt measuring instructions, I ordered the proper belts and the cassette deck it now returned to full function. I can play my old cassettes once again. The new belts worked perfectly. In fact it sounds much better than the last time I was able to use it. Happy Days are here again!

I was just writing to say that the speaker repair kit I ordered from you was exactly what I needed.  I had actually been looking at new speakers online when I came across your site.  With the instructions and parts you included, my 14-year-old daughter and I successfully restored my old mid-80's floor speakers to their original sound.  Apparently listening to vinyl records through 12" woofers is still cool.  She and I are both proud of the fact that we got the old system working so well and we did it for only $26.

I ordered the carriage motor, received it today, placed it in the vcr, and everything is working great. Your diagnosis was 100% correct! (as if there was any doubt)   I was unaware that those motors could lose torque... I thought they just burned out and failed totally. Anyway, now I still have a fairly decent VCR for the cost of a carriage motor only.    I appreciate your help and advice and thank-you again.

Well, I received the carriage assembly in less than 48 hours from the order time and I have to say that I was impressed with the shipment.  The carriage assembly was packaged nicely and preset for easy installation. Once installed I noticed a remarkably smoother operation   (I have ALWAYS had clunky loading with this VCR) and now it operates better than when new. I would like to offer this unsolicited testimony as to the professional manner in which I was treated by the Studio Sound people. I have bookmarked them at the top of my list of business I will do business with again. Oh, another thing... Circuit City quoted me a minimum of $140 to diagnose and additional cost for the repair with a minimum of 10 days turnaround. The carriage assembly with shipping and Express mail was $43... Wow!!!! And I get the warm fuzzy feeling of having repaired the unit myself!!

Your VMK-069 kit arrived Thursday and was installed Thursday night. The VCR was returned to service and operated perfectly. Picture quality even improved which I attributed to the new pinch roller. I was in the TV service business for 20 years and finally closed in 1995 (sets too reliable and too inexpensive to replace). I limit my "practice" to old customers, friends and family. The availability of parts through Studio Sound Electronics is a welcome change from having to deal with manufacturers' service depots, with high minimum orders and indifferent service to the small customer. Hi, I recently order a power supply rebuild kit for a GE VCR. It worked wonderfully and got my VCR working again for only $20.00! I didn't even know these kits existed before searching the Internet and finding your site. I have some electronics knowledge and knew the power supply was bad, but I don't have the skills to repair it and the cost of sending it to a shop for repairs was prohibitive. I just thought I'd send a quick note to let you know I received the video head and idler tire I ordered, installed them, and my VCR works great. I was a bit concerned that I'd have trouble installing the head, but with a little help from a new soldering iron, a desoldering tool, and the excellent enclosed instructions, it was pretty easy. I actually had more trouble with the rubber idler tire because it's hard to reach, and I had to remove the idler arm, which is held down by a tricky little clip I almost lost twice.
Thanks for helping to make VCR repair an affordable reality for the hobbyist. I personally saved at least $50 by doing it myself.
