"Modding" your tube amplifier should be undertaken only if you have some experience in working in tube amplifiers, and understand the dangers of high voltage and how to work around it safely. You will need experience in soldering,
and have soldering / de-soldering equipment (available here). With certain kits, you will also need a multimeter (available here). |

"SpikeZapper" power tube spike protection kit Protects your output power tubes from high voltage spikes. Spiking is usually caused by an underbiased amp which is delivering too much voltage to the outputs. These spikes drastically reduce the life of the output tubes, and can possibly also damage the output transformer - both very costly. Works with any amplifier using 8-pin octal output tubes: 6L6, EL34, 6550, 5881, 6V6. Mesa Boogie and Trainwreck are the only amplifiers which commonly include this type of spike protection in their amplifiers. All components and complete instructions included. You'll need to add: Soldering equipment, solder, hand tools.

Blackface Kit for Silverface Fender Super Reverb This kit changes the design of your late 60's or 1970's vintage Silverface Fender Amp to the original "Blackface" amps of the early-to-mid 1960's. Most players agree that the pre-CBS blackface amps sounded much better than the pale-imitation silverface successors designed by the CBS engineers. With this kit, you can take your amp back to the Leo Fender design. In addition, you also restore the bias-setting capability of the amp, replacing the somewhat useless "balance control" of the silverface. These modifications are completely reversible, and no permanent changes to the chassis (such as drilling holes, etc) are required. Sorry, but this won't change the "cosmetics" of your amp - it will unfortunately still have a silver front panel. :-( All components and complete instructions included. You'll need to add: Soldering equipment, de-solder equipment, solder, hand tools, multimeter.

Fender Bassman Upgrade for Guitar Players Over the years, a lot of guitar players have picked up a vintage Fender Bassman amp and used it for guitar. The Bassman was never a really popular bass amp (especially today), so a vintage silverface or blackface Bassman is available at cheap prices. These amps can be made to rock with this modification. Add your own external effects pedals, and you're set to go! This mod is completed in the driver section of the amp, turning a muddy sounding Bassman into a fine 50 watt guitar amp. Make sure the amp is in good shape to start with - this mod won't fix existing problems. Works on vintage 60's and 70's Bassman amps (blackface or silverface). All components and complete instructions included. You'll need to add: Soldering equipment, de-solder equipment, solder, hand tools.

Fender Amp Conversion to EL34 Tubes Any vintage Fender Amp that uses 6L6 power tubes can be converted to EL34 tubes. Now, the useful life of the EL34 is somewhat shorter than the 6L6, the change in tone quality may make some players feel that it's a good trade-off. This mod is completed in the output section and also in the bias section of the amplifier. All needed parts are included except for the EL34 tubes. We do carry the EL34 tubes - you can purchase them here. Components (except for the tubes) and complete instructions included. You'll need to add: Soldering equipment, de-solder equipment, solder, hand tools, and a multimeter to adjust the bias/balance.

![]() Fender Gain Boost Cable Stock No: GBC-1 $9.95 |
Fender Gain Boost Cable Now, here's a way to get additional drive and gain from your vintage Fender amp, without any internal modifications at all. This mod cable turns your reverb footswitch into a gain booster footswitch, and changes the reverb control into a gain/overdrive control. You do lose the reverb on your amp with this gizmo, but a lot of players don't use the internal reverb anyway. The beauty of this device is that it is easily and quickly reversible - you simply unplug the cable, and reconnect the cables to your reverb pan. You'll need a vintage (60's or 70's) blackface or silverface Fender tube amp with built-in reverb (Twin Reverb, Super Reverb, Pro Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, etc.) Simply unplug the two cables on the back going to the reverb pan, and plug in this cable between the two jacks on the back panel. Simple? You bet! No tools, no equipment, no disassembly of amp - easy! GBC-1 Fender Gain Boost Cable $9.95 |
![]() Safe Voltage Discharge Cable Stock No: SVDC-1 $8.95 |
Tube Amplifier Safe Voltage Discharge Cable This cable is designed to help you work safely inside your tube amplifier. The first step, of course, is to always unplug the amplifier from the AC supply. It's also a good idea to let the amp "rest" for a period of time before removing the chassis, in order to let the high voltage bleed off. This cable will help ensure that you minimize the possibility of getting shocked by stored voltage in the amplifier. You connect this cable between the terminals of the standby switch and chassis ground. Allow the cable to remain in place for about a minute while the voltage safely discharges, and then remove the cable. Instructions included. Safe Voltage Discharge Cable $8.95 |
