I was just writing to say that the speaker repair kit I ordered from you was exactly what I needed.  I had actually been looking at new speakers online when I came across your site.  With the instructions and parts you included, my 14-year-old daughter and I successfully restored my old mid-80's floor speakers to their original sound.  Apparently listening to vinyl records through 12" woofers is still cool.  She and I are both proud of the fact that we got the old system working so well and we did it for only $26.

The Solution
Deteriorated foam surrounds is one of the major problems with home speakers. The foam starts to crack and break after about 8 to 10 years. Our repair kits allow you to remove the old foam surround and easily reattach a new one.   Our complete foam surround kits come with complete written instructions, plus a DVD which shows you the step-by-step process from removing the old foam surround to removing the dust cap, shimming the voice coil, and properly installing the new surround.

Some refoam kits skip over the part about shimming the cone in place.   Sometimes skipping that step works, sometimes it doesn't.   When it doesn't, you're left with a speaker with a voice coil that is rubbing the magnet structure, resulting in a distorted sound and a shortened life for your speaker.   Our kits give you the necessary parts and tools to shim the voice coil, just as the professionals do.    This extra step is not difficult and takes only a few extra minutes per speaker, and ensures your success every time!   

Some companies' refoam kits contain only the new foam surrounds, a bottle of glue, and some written instructions.     Our kits give you the new foam surrounds, a bottle of polyvinyl acetate adhesive, voice coil shims, cotton swabs, new dust caps, detailed written instructions and the detailed 20-minute instructional DVD.     And our professional kits cost about the same as the other guys! 

For those who have experience in replacing surrounds, we also offer just the replacement surrounds alone, as well as individual replacement dust caps.

Before you order, please measure your old surround carefully.   The following diagram shows necessary measurements:

"A" is the outside diameter of the surround - to the very edge of the speaker gasket.

"B" is the inside diameter of the surround - measured right across the center of the speaker.

"C" is the diameter of the dust cap.   Note that your new dust cap which comes with the kit may be larger than your old one.   That's perfectly OK!

Look at how the old foam surround attached to the cone.   Some surrounds are glued to the cone on the angled edge, as shown to the left.   This is called an angle surround.
Other surrounds attach to the cone along a thin flat edge on the outside of the cone, as shown to the left.   The type of surround that attaches in this way is called a flat surround.
